Madison Unicyclists, working with the Unicycling Society of America, created a successful event raising funds and awareness about unicycling in Madison. Congratulations to all volunteers, participants and award winners. A summary of the event and results are listed below. Madison, Wisconsin and the Madison Unicyclists hosted the Unicycling Society of America’s 2011 North American Unicycling Convention and Championships (NAUCC 2011) from July 23 – 30. Beginner to expert riders participated in the convention activities and competitions.
NAUCC 2011 riding workshops and registration began on Saturday, July 23 at the Goodman Community Center. The official opening event fun parade started in the afternoon, riding the 8 blocks to Yahara Place Park for the start of the criterium race. Later in the afternoon, the Flatland competition was held at the Goodman Center and the trials course was open for practice. Trials practice and competitions were held all day Sunday followed by the Unicycling Society of America’s annual meeting.
Events on Monday-Thursday were held at Monona Grove High School and included artistic competitions (Monday and Wednesday), hockey and basketball (Tuesday), and track competitions (Thursday). Mountain unicycling competitions were held Friday at CamRock park (followed by a swim at Lake Ripley). The 10k race starting at Vilas Park around Lake Wingra and through the beautiful Arboretum was on Saturday morning, followed by the Street competition and final party at the Goodman Community Center. The Marathon (Monday morning) and Time Trial (Wednesday afternoon) distance races were held in Mt. Horeb and at Lake Farm County Park respectively.
